Intersections and high center of gravity vehicles are associated with dangerous rollover crashes.

If you regularly drive in The Woodlands or follow the fire department or neighborhood social media pages, you’ve likely seen that we are experiencing a high number of rollover collisions.
There are a number of factors contributing to the increase in rollovers. SUVs have a higher center of gravity, making them more vulnerable to rolling over struck by another vehicle. When SUV drivers over-correct, they can flip instead of slide. When SUVs hit a raised curb or even the shoulder, they can “trip” causing a rollover. “Tripping” often occurs when vehicles are t-boned and knocked into a curb or median.
The Woodlands has a greater proportion of SUV's than many other areas, and therefore a higher percentage of rollover collisions. The higher speed of drivers in collisions also contributes to the increase in rollovers.
According to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a crash is classified as a rollover if the vehicle tips onto its side or roof at any time during the crash. The rollover may result from an impact with another vehicle or with a fixed object. A rollover may lead to occupants being ejected from the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of a fatality.
