Plan Ahead.  Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained and in good working order.  Plan your route in advance and be prepared for heavier than normal traffic. Have your roadside assistance contact information on hand.  And confirm your auto insurance coverage.  If you don’t have personal injury protection or underinsured motorists coverage, add them! 2.  Don’t Text and Drive.  Don’t Text and Drive.  It can wait.  The NHTA reports that distracted driving claimed 2,841 lives in 2018 alone. Among those killed: 1,730 drivers, 605 passengers, 400 pedestrians and 77 bicyclists. https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/distracted-driving 3.   Avoid Driver Fatigue.  Make sure you are well-rested, take breaks at least every two hours, and switch drivers on long trips, if possible.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports estimates that in 2017, 91,000 police-reported crashes involved drowsy drivers.
